Exactly. I also don't understand why the government should legally recognize marriage of any kind. Marriage is a personal thing, not a legislative issue.

Im sure some do. But restrictive laws are less important to them then marriage and they vote that way.

SS marriage is less important to me, so I vote that way.

What about opposite sex civil partnership? I might want the legal benefits marriage entails but without the religious voodoo connotations of marriage.

As usual, the whole equality debate is hijacked by gay right's fundamentalism...

So, you're asserting that homosexuals vote in favor of helmet/seatbelt/sales tax/income tax laws in greater proportion than heterosexuals. Is that right?

How did you come to this conclusion?

You can get legally married in a courthouse by the Justice of the Peace - where is the religious voodoo in that?

Because its still under the word 'marriage'

That is, after all, what these gay rights lobbyists are up in arms about, a word, nothing more.

Im merely saying why is their right to declare themselves 'married' championed, whereas straights rights to declare themselves 'in a partnership' ignored. Its not confusing at all, its a very clear case of double standards.

Legal rights wise, they already have full equality under civil partnership (here in england at least, where some want civil marriage too)

I'm assuming the OP meant "gay or straight" so I voted for that one.
