What a shame, I bet she would have been in the running to win. Also, according to Canadian law she's legally a women, not to mention Canadian law protects the transgendered from discrimination, so I wonder if the pageant's action is legal.

The Vancouver native says she has known she was a female since she was four years old. Talackova began hormone therapy at 14 and had sex reassignment surgery in 2010. Blogs were reporting Talackova's inclusion on the Miss Universe Canada's finalists' page as early as March 13. But her beauty pageant progress was short-lived.
She considers it a 'human rights' issue but would not elaborate until she talks to her lawyer early next week."
Since it's not a government owned and operated contest they can do whatever they want.
I don't believe that's how anti-discrimination laws work. Stores in Canada can't post signs saying, "No Jews" or "No Gays", even if they're private stores not owned by the government.
Why not let her compete? Are they afraid she'd win?
I don't know, maybe it's because he's not actually a woman?
