Other than the obvious difference between state and federal law, what's the differences between Romneycare and Obamacare?

The single most important difference IMHO is that one is run at the state level and one is run at the federal level. Running things at the state level was the way things were always supposed to work. If any given state wants universal health care, they can create it. And because it is being done at a more localized level, they can customize things as they see fit.

The next important difference: Massachusetts citizens were overwhelmingly in favor of statewide universal health care both before and after it was created. Obamacare was slammed through Congress despite the fact that a significant majority of Americans didn't want the thing.

Because Romneycare was as state-run program, if Massachusetts wants to do away with it, they can do so with far greater ease. Any federal run entitlement program is an absolute nightmare to get rid of.

And constitutionally, states have the right to create these sorts of things. The federal government does not. What does universal health care have to do with regulating international and interstate commerce???

ObamaCare vs RomneyCare: Are You Ready for the Truth? (http://americaneedsmitt.com/blog/obamacare-romneycare-truth/ - broken link)

This chart states the differences succinctly and effectively. It also cites all of its sources if you question it, so it's not just a bunch of one-liners.

The big thing for me is that Romneycare is paid for. Obamacare isn't. Romney cut taxes and created a rainy day fund. Obama has raised deficits to record levels. So even if Romneycare created extra spending, I at least know Governor Romney was responsible enough to make sure it was paid for.

Perhaps, but unlike the other GOP candidates, you can't call him a heartless SOB who doesn't give a crap about poor people who can't afford to buy insurance on their own.

There's always more than one way of looking at things.

We have had the highest insurance premiums in the country since then.

That's one of the reasons why I am no longer living in MA.

He isn't though. Newt Gingrich is running like a madman from his previous support of federal mandates. Mitt Romney has said he is proud of his healthcare bill. He admits it's not perfect and that he would do some things differently. But he's not running from it.

Well that link and chart was a joke. Give us a non-partisan assessment that isn't focused on one-liners and we can stop responding with one-liners.
