Harry Reid caves on filibuster reform so what this means is the republicans are keep the failibuster rule exactly the same in the senate. Harry Reid is now a loser plan and simple check out this video for more on this
Reid is slowly realizing you can only try to beat the Constitution. Making it happen and stick, is a different matter.
For someone from Nevada... His bluff was called.
Harry Reid has been more of a problem than Obama, where the Constitution is concerned.

Um, where is the filibuster mentioned in the Constitution, exactly?
You do realize that virtually all big name democrats, including Harry Reid, are on record as stating that the filibuster is vital to democracy and protecting the rights of the minority.
It is mind boggling how Democrats want their party to flip flop left and right and to lie. No one cares that Obama lies and flip flops left and right in the Democratic party. He will wind up being a bad president because no one in his party attempts to hold him accountable...just like Bush.

2/3rd's?
The founders of the Constitution, realized every law placed on the people, was a restriction of freedom. They wanted to make it hard as possible to take or restrict freedoms, of the minority vote.
The fillibuster is the whole reason we are a Republic and not a Democracy.

Thank you Chief Justice BentBow.
The filibuster didn't come to being until 1809, so to state that it was part of the founder's intention is simply not believable and contrary to the historical record. The Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Ballin (1892), changes to Senate rules could be achieved by a simple majority.
The Constitution didn't create the filibuster; there is no mention of it anywhere in the document. What the Constitution does say is:
ARTICLE I, Section 5
Quote:
Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member.
The nation is a Republic because it is a banding of individual states, who have sovereignty on many matters, to form a national united government. That's what makes the U.S. a republic not the existence of a Senate rule. That's just silly.
In essence, everything you said in your post is wrong -- but I am also sure your supported the Republican threat in 2005 to abolish the filibuster.
2/3rd's is the winning vote. 5/9th's is a filibuster. They just named it.
A republic takes 66% of the vote to pass, it keep laws from restricting the freedom of the minority to a very minimum.
a democracy takes 50.1 % of the vote and law after law gets pass, splitting and dividing the nation and forcing laws on enough people to cause a real conflict.
Only 5% of the colonies population, were against and fought King George.... Freedom is a very powerful thing. Psychological brain washing and might, are the only things that will make you, as an individual, give up that freedom.

It takes 6/10 to overcome a filibuster. Under rules a few decades ago, it required 67%. The number of votes required has no bearing on whether a nation is a republic or not.

In the U.S. Senate, a majority carries a vote. It only requires 60 to overcome a filibuster, which used to be rare before the Republicans started abusing the filibuster and requiring every minor vote to require a super-majority -- which allows the minority to hold up everything against the will of the people.

From the looks of it and your chart, they have gone after all the light stuff they could and ran out of the easy to get by us stuff. Now are going after the heavy and on the edge and over the edge stuff.
The founders knew that a close majority vote, could bring blood.
