The organic label is a marketing ploy and creates money for the government through licensing fees.

Another popular ‘health’ brand is Kashi, owned by the Kellogg corporation. It should come as no surprise that Kashi cereals have been found to contain a copious amount of GMOs and pesticides, according to an explosive report from the Cornucopia Institute.

Kashi’s ’Heart to Heart Blueberry cereal’ was found to contain grains coated in the residue of many pesticides such as phosmet, carbaryl, azinphos methyl, malathion, chlorpyrifos methyl, chlorpyrifos.

What’s more, the company’s products were found to oftentimes contain 100% genetically modified ingredients.

This is the sad truth about processed "organic" foods... If you eat real organic whole foods (preferaby locally sourced) that you cook yourself, then you still have a good shot. If you're eating "organic" pop tarts or TV dinners, then all bets are off.

they actually make organic pop-tarts and TV dinners?

i don't know why anyone would be surprised that the big food/drink companies would jump on the bandwagon here: it's a veritable cash cow.

About twenty years ago or so, the large agricultural corporations decided that it would be profitable to get in on the organic food market. So, they persuaded the government to dumb-down the requirements that the original, small, organic producers had set for themselves, to qualify foods for an organic label. This way, they could mostly skate past the need to spend a lot of money, to acquire farmland that was not tainted with pesticides and types of fertilizers that were considered unhealthy.

Even the weakened requirements have been rarely enforced since then, as there aren't nearly enough inspectors to do the job. Now, with GMO foods coming into widespread use, they often use them without notifying the consumers, knowing that it won't likely be detected nor the rules enforced. I make a point to never buy anything that is labeled "organic", because I think it's more likely to contain harmful substances, than standard food products.

Unfortunately, there's many people who have so deeply incorporated the idea of organic foods being healthier, into their minds, that they continue to spend lots of extra money for nothing and these corporations are making big money off of them. This kind of fraud seems to emerge and proliferate on a bi-partisan basis, with neither major political party doing much to curtail it.
