The topic on gay unions is hot. Being a controversial issue, many compare gay "marriage" to interracial marriage. Why is that?
It has been less than half a century since the decision in Loving v. Virginia finally gave interracial couples equal protection under the law. It is now time to extend that same equal protection to gay Americans.
From Loving v. Virginia
Quote:
Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival. Skinner v. Oklahoma, 316 U.S. 535, 541 (1942). See also Maynard v. Hill, 125 U.S. 190 (1888). To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law. The Fourteenth Amendment requires that the freedom of choice to marry not be restricted by invidious racial discriminations. Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State.
Now substitute a few words:

Never heard that comparison. Must be the new left handed battle cry. Soon we'll have affirmitive action for gays if they get their way and reparations to boot. I wonder if they'll share?
Also, a lot of the same people who say the debate on gay marriage is NOTHING like the debate on interracial marriage, will then turn around and compare gay marriage to having sex with a dog.
That's right. Comparing marriage to marriage makes no sense, but comparing marriage to beastiality -- Yep!

Because they're an almost perfect legal analogy.
