The Dem party is built on a very shaky foundation, tribalism can only get you so far. If the GOP ceased to exist, Dems would turn on each other in a hot minute.

My hope is that the city surrounding the government buildings be granted statehood and the federal district in it's core be governed directly by the Feds. That way nobody's house (except the President's) is effected by their wild political whims.
What?! That's EXACTLY what DC needs! Not Statehood....but Federal receivership! The clowns in DC are the reason it's as screwed up as it is! Statehood won't do a damn thing to change that!

That's American as apple pie. Hell, the whole world is like that.

All societies need something to rally around. The only way you can unite the world is an alien invasion. That's the nature of mankind.

The GOP HAS the Dems, and they still turn on each other. So...whatever.

Ward 8 doesn't sound that bright.

I'm not sure the nation as a whole is happy with the leadership on Capitol Hill, so there wouldn't be much hope for us with that gang either.

DC statehood is not going to happen unless a prospective Republican state comes along to counterbalance heavily Democrat Washington DC.

Puerto Rico is too much of a 'swinger' to be considered reliably Republican (although the Republicans do currently hold a supermajority in the territorial Senate, House, and mayors & the governor's office). Guam and the Mariana's are solidly Republican but they are too small population wise for statehood.

Hence Washington DC will never become a state.
