Mary Brown, whose case against the 2010 healthcare reform law is pending before the Supreme Court, argues that the government shouldn't be able to force her to carry health insurance. Joined by three other individuals and a small-business trade association, she's asking the justices to rule that the law's insurance mandate is unconstitutional and that the rest of the act should be thrown out with it. But new revelations about her own situation make the case for the other side.

As The Times' David Savage reported, Brown and her husband have fallen on hard times since filing the lawsuit, largely because their auto repair business in Florida failed. The couple have filed for bankruptcy protection, asking a federal court to wipe out close to $60,000 in consumer debts. Significantly, their unpaid bills include $2,750 owed to a local hospital and physicians group and $1,735 to out-of-state medical specialists.
Mary Brown, foe of health insurance mandate, gives fodder to reform - Los Angeles Times

Once the foe of Obamacare by suing in court to avoid paying for health insurance she has gone bankrupt after being ill and is now unable to pay her bills. Of course, the taxpayers picked up the tab.

She has become the poster child for the Obama Administration on why the health care reform is necessary, making it a strong compelling case before the Supreme Court.

To the opponents whining about having to pay for other people's healthcare--we are already paying for them. It's a just matter of paying more for their stupidity vs. paying the reasonable (and lesser) amount when they play smart.

This is just exactly how the right/tea party supporters are. They vote against their own interest because they think others will hurt more. It makes no since.

How exactly did taxpayers "pick up her tab?"

Taxpayers paid her consumer debts? Taxpayers paid her medical bills?

I see nothing that would indicate that taxpayes were on the hook for any of this.

Even more important, who's saying we shouldn't reform healthcare? No one that I can think of. Reform is necessary. Obamacare is not the answer.

Perhaps the exact same way that people on the right keep telling us that "taxpayers" are going to be paying for Sandra Fluke's birth control.....

We all agree health care reform is needed but not in the 'new world order' wrapper of Obamacare. 2,200 pp of legislation rammed down our throats by legislators who did not read or understand what they approved. Little of to do with healthcare.

Sure, let's celebrate.

Another great example of some people really being too stupid to know they are stupid.

I hope she gets to experience all the joys of going broke from medical bills. It will be a great personal lesson why the bill was enacted.
