This is just a continuation to Sarah Palin / GOP economics in Alaska. The new guy picked up where she left off with the 'roads to nowhere', and 'harbors without roads' approach. They demand federal money, and then blow it on insane projects like this one.

Yep, Palin is a damn socialist. This is a classic example of why most infrastructure projects should be paid by the states and/or localities. no state or local government would have built these projects.
Roger's has brought so much federal money to his hometown (Somerset, Kentucky; population 11,000) that it is known as Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. There's a $52 million National Center for Hometown Security. The tiny airport that received $17 million in federal dollars but has so little traffic that the last commercial airline pulled out in February. And then there's the Hal Rogers Parkway, which was formerly known as the Daniel Boone Parkway before being renaming for Kentucky's Prince of Pork.
Most recently, Rogers pushed through a $5 million dollar measure this year for conservation groups that work with endangered wild cats. It just so happens that one of the few groups eligible is the Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund. Who works for them? The Congressman's daughter.

That's a two-yr-old article, but it does show why you lefties need to get on board with the Tea Party. Note in the article that the appt. of Rogers was opposed by Tea Partiers. We saw what could happen with Republicans like Rogers from 2000-2006, and the Tea Party came along in order to try to prevent a repeat.
Anyway, look at the bright side of this. It's unlikely that these Alaskans will riot and destroy their "stimulus" project, as happened last year in Washington DC.
I have to laugh. hardliners on the left pointing fingers and hardliners on the right pointing them back. Until we hold elected reps accountable this will never change. Stop voting party line.
That won't change much unless you stop voting for the two major parties. The fact is the best way to stop these wasteful projects is to stop money going to Washington D.C. in the first place.

Agreed.
Both sides agree that this kind of stuff is bad. Why is there an argument?
Probably no one who has commented lives in the district that has the airport. Maybe they wanted it. If so, Palin, or whomever, is representing their interests - which them changes the focus of the problem.
The main is point is to focus on whether sound principles are followed regardless of the candidate. We don't need the unnecessary divisiveness.
