If absolute power corrupts absolutely and money equals power then doesn't it follow that the more money that flows into the political process, the more corrupt that process will become?
The old quote by John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton was "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Its a time worn adage. To say that only corrupt men seek power is rather silly.

Yes, absolutely. That is why the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United was so devastating to our political system.
For we citizens, it is one person one vote. But, the rich can give unlimited amounts to SuperPacs; therefore, their "speech" equals millions of our voices. And now, with the Citizens United decision, even corporations have more free "speech" than most citizens do.
For those who did not know, the Supreme Court equates political donations to free speech. So, rich people and corporations can have more "free speech" and thus a bigger ability to sway votes than the rest of us, and thus buy politicans who pass laws that cut the deck more and more in their favor, and shut us out of the process.
power brings wealth, and money brings more power, a self feeding system..
Sounds like it might be time to starve this dog. Doesn't matter if you are liberal or conservative, its time to put an end to the corrupting influence of money on the political process. Tell who you gotta tell, write who you gotta write, but do whatever you can to get corporations, unions and all the other lobbiests out of Washington and our state capitals.
Just the desire to seek power over other people indicates a certain corruption of the soul. This soon leads to political corruption by placing self aggrandizement over the need of the people the politician seeks to control. Money is merely the medium of exchange. The corruption is internal. And eternal.

I hear you and can agree; as long as you are prepared to oust union influence as well. No money means NO money other than individual contributions.

Your view is more than a little cynical and overly pessimistic. There are some people in government that get involved because they want to make a contribution. Its only after they get there, begin thinking about the next election and start sucking on the cash cow that they loose their morality and ethics.

Yes, that is correct. One would not have expected this to have been a particularly controversial statement, but clearly our Supreme Court and lawmakers think otherwise... hmm, I wonder why that might be the case?
