Fewer people know what they're voting for anymore, it's usually what they're voting against. If a right party wins, it doesn't mean many of those people support their economic policies and vice versa. The two main parties in many highly developed countries are nearly identical in economic and foreign policy at this point. Rocking the boat will risk losing support from the public, even if it works out in their best interest, or the support from the financial elite who own the economies in the west. That of course will hurt their party and risk ending the career of that politician if they're in high enough of a position that their decisions matter.

Nice, maybe the cost of living in Paris/France will drop as well if they actually follow through, which I doubt (as I'm doubtful Hollande will impost a 75% tax on the wealthiest).

Why should they go anywhere? Switzerland, the country of secret bank accounts, is a neighboring country.

It could have been worse. It could've been Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Hence Sarkozy's loss. The Germanic and northern European countries are doing fine, so they, mainly Germany via their right party, can push for austerity on other European countries while of course their own citizens get to keep all the benefits their government has provided them.

Sarkozy committed political suicide in France. He raised the retirement age from 60 to 62. Give people the opportunity to vote themselves free money and they'll pull the lever every time.

French have just voted against Sarkozy
They do not care about Hollande propositions
I think, Hollande is not enough charismatic to lead the country and to represent it in Europe or around the World
I do not know wha Merkel thinks about this guy

I think it is funny... a socialist French president is elected and you see the liberals already trying to distance themselves from him... What I see often is liberals like to talk BS and when elected, they do what the opposite side would do... I am waiting for Hollande to walk his talk with socialist policies but I think most liberals are a bunch of liars and thieves anyway...

They did exactly what deTocqueville warned Americans about not doing.
