Good news! As with the medical marijuana issue, I feel this is a first step towards national recognition/legalization.

You're contradicting yourself. We're talking about a direct democracy, not a Constitutional Republic. A direct democracy can overrule the 1st Amendment by majority vote.

No it doesn't. Jesus made it clear that sin was sin - he said that his death paid the price for that sin and his resurrection completed victory over it. The Apostle Paul has a lot to say to people like you who think the NT licenses sin - read his letter to the Romans.
