The liberal public position may be to cut spending. I'm sure they would like to gut the military and intellegence agencies, but they have reneged on this promise in the past.

The top rates were 50% under Reagan and 39% under Clinton. The capital gains rate was also much lower under Clinton than Reagan.

Even under Clinton, the rich got the best shake.
