The job of our government is to protect us and our children need to be protected from being influenced by people who would flaunt their weird lifestyle in our faces.
Is City-Data run by gays. There doesn't seem to be much else on here lately. Why not give them their own thread so the rest of us can discuss something important enough to discuss.

on what page of the constitution is marriage addressed?
On what page is the right to restrict marriage or even civil unions? Based on what? Religion? What happened to the separation of church and state? If a person is not religious, what right to the religious have to tell them who they can marry? This weapon called religion is being used to control even the non-religious, which means, maybe churches should no longer be tax exempt, since they are now political parties in themselves.
I am for freedom of religion. Supporting those things does not allow me to support the idea of government getting involved in civil relationships.
Supporting a ban on gay marriage says that government can interfere with freedom of religion. There are churches, (gasp, even Christian churches!) that do not oppose the marriage of same sex couples. Having to get permission from the government to begin with is not a small government principle ... But when churches are not allowed to perform marriages to whomever they please based on their interpretation of spirituality and beliefs and it hold equal standing legally, the government is infringing on freedom of religion by saying it is government's right to interpret how a person's religious beliefs can be practiced. It is also an infringement on the freedom of religion by using a religious belief to impose a standard on people who choose not to participate in religion.
I disagree with this aspect of your assessment. Gay marriage bans ban same-sex couples from contracting civil marriages. Gay marriage bans have nothing whatsoever to do with religion or with religious marriages. Any church in American is free to perform and sanctify a same-sex marriage if it chooses to do so.
It;s not even about marriage or gay marriage - It is about the systemic debasement of society at large- to bring everyone down to their knees in the dirt..to take away all human dignity and true pride..it is to make everyone lowly and equal. The reason being is that our leadership is of such low quality- Instead of them bringing society up- they drag it down...It's kind of like the Stalin approach to control..IF you want to be the smartest guy on the block and you are not that bright...You launch a campaign of attrition- Get rid of the intelligent and oppress the non-compliant..and then you as a retard become the smartest and in control- todays governments are retards..

I agree. Unconstitutionally banning gay couples from equal access to the law - codifying invidious discrimination against a minority - debases and degrades society. It drags down society, sh*tting all over our core principles of freedom and equality. Our leaders are cowardly pigs for allowing it to continue. It's a black-eye on Lady Liberty.
When Republicans justify their hatred against gays with the Bible, when they quote scripture as a basis for discriminating against a minority, when they use religion to harm those that are not religious, they are legislating religion.
The entire reason for this gay marriage initiative is to get undeserved government benefits such as Social Security spousal and survivor benefits. It's all about the money. If successful, it will break the back of an already overburdened system.
Are saying that gays don't pay their taxes? If they do, how on Earth are they undeserving? Should married hetero couples that DON'T have children not have the same benefits of a married hetero couple that DOES?
