I'm sure many of you saw the recent story on how minority births are outpacings whites for the first. It's seems the Phyllis Schafyly founded Eagle Forum isn't too happy about it. They further show their delusion when they call for return of the America of Ozzie and Harriet, never mind that America never really existed.

I'm a minority and I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiment. Debate all you like but America is going to be a far different place in a couple decades and it won't be for the better IMHO. It's not so much that folks are minorities but that the children of many of these immigrant groups are simply not cutting it academically. How are we going to compete with the Germans and Chinese when we keep watering down standards to accomodate these groups?
There is a reason why Anglo, Germanic, East Asian and Jewish countries thrive and Latin and African countries don't.

These groups assimilated into the American fabric, their kids performed well academically and are well represented among the middle class. The same can't be said for most Hispanics and I'm not seeing any indication that will change soon. Over 50% of Hispanics children are born out of wedlock, there dropout rates are worse than Blacks.
IMHO the primary reason for the slow progress in Latin American countries is their society is feudal, their politics aristocratic and their church abhors progress. Better to live poor and go to heaven instead of becoming a middle class free thinker.
People were complaining about the same problems with all the other poor immigrant groups in the past. The problem with the Hispanics is not culture it is poverty and a society and economy determined to keep them poor so they will always be a source of low cost labor. Within a couple of generations they figure out how to get ahead and the master class has to find another immigrant group to replace them. I figure South East Asians are the next immigrant group to be exploited.
With rhetoric like this, Republicans can't expect to win over Black voters.
or Hispanics! The GOP has failed miserably to engage the legal Hispanic population and instead do things like the Arizona Law, defund hispanic studies at schools, etc. There are 52 million Hispanics in the US according to the Census and I suspect that the vast majority of that 52 million are "legal" since I doubt any "illegal" would fill out a Census form.
That coupled with 44 million blacks and that's roughly one third of the US population. It's just amazing & amusing how the GOP has turned into the party of bigots & haters and in the process shooting themselves in the foot politically.
Obama already has the black & Hispanic vote locked up so they better hope every white registered Republican shows up to vote in November!
