WASHINGTON — In the first public accounting of its kind, cellphone carriers reported that they responded to a startling 1.3 million demands for subscriber information last year from law enforcement agencies seeking text messages, caller locations and other information in the course of investigations.

Under federal law, the carriers said they generally required a search warrant, a court order or a formal subpoena to release information about a subscriber. But in cases that law enforcement officials deem an emergency, a less formal request is often enough. Moreover, rapid technological changes in cellphones have blurred the lines on what is legally required to get data — particularly the use of GPS systems to identify the location of phones.

Yikes. We can only go downhill from here.

This is disturbing. I guess we are beyond needing search warrants... and yet another aspect of the Constitution is set aside. This is not a right or left issue.... ex Bush passed the Patriot Act. Obama reinforced it. , Obama did NDAA..yet it was a repub that wrote it... Neither party seems interested in preserving the Constitution. While people are spinning their wheels of trivial issues like the sanctity of marriage the government is further eliminating their rights... When will we begin to see people imprisoned because they don't support the new system?

Is everyone sure you want to elect one of the 2 parties? This is what they are bringing you and wrapping it in "its for your safety" coating. How The system would be so amazed if everyone revolted and voted for the Libertarian or something, but with our voting systems your vote has probably already been cast.
