My opinion is about the same. Both he and Bill Clinton were and are amoral opportunists (scumbags) more concerned with themselves than their constituents. Still we had better government under them than under the Shrub.
I am probably like many liberals in this respect. In 2008 I supported John edwards initially because he was the most liberal of the candidates, and the only one who made poverty and the gross inequality of our society the centerpiece of his candidacy.
Politically I was very angry at him when his extramarital affair came to light. He had no business asking people to vote, and work, and raise money for him when he knew that he was guilty of activities that were bound to come out and would have demolished any chance of a Democratic victory.
Personally, everybody I know, including myself and people who supported him in 2008, considers him a contemptible, lying weasel.
Clinton is not a liberal hero. He was no liberal when he was running for and serving as president, and liberals supported him only because he was better than the alternative. Nobody I know ever believed that his extramarital affairs were relevant to his ability to serve as president. (Hint: people who supported his impeachment might be surprised to learn that there is nothing about blow jobs in the presidential oath of office. And don't even bother with the lie that he was impeached because of perjury, because nobody with a brain believes that that is what it was about.)
Anyone who claims that John Edwards is a Democratic or liberal hero, or will ever become one, is a liar. Anyone who believes John Edwards is a Democratic or liberal hero, or will ever become one, is an idiot who knows nothing about liberals or how we think.
