Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. We need to get rid of all of these SYG laws...

The problem is not stand your ground laws, it's trigger happy idiots who are out looking for a fight. You cannot legislate common sense and judgment.

The guy is an idiot. Shooting someone over loud music and then claiming he was standing his ground ?

Glad to see the jury saw right through it.

This is a good result. Further, it is proof that we do not need to get rid of a GOOD SYG law.
In a state with a strong SYG law, this man was rightfully convicted of murder. The law is not bad because a bad guy did something bad and got convicted of it.

That is just silly.

This guy was found GUILTY of murder therefore this case doesn't involve a SYG situation.

For forgot the parts about him leaving his property and going out into a public street to confront these guys while video taping the entire situation and proving that the guys he shot weren't carrying weapons.

The jury did the right thing, this guy is a nut.

Default Texas Man Convicted of Murder in Stand Your Ground Case

I think the states that enacted this nightmare might want to rethink the value of this law before someone else gets killed needlessly.

HOUSTON — A retired Houston-area firefighter faces up to life in prison after a jury convicted him of murder for gunning down his unarmed neighbor during a dispute over a noisy house party.

Raul Rodriguez, 47, argued he was within his rights under Texas' version of a stand-your-ground law when he killed Kelly Danaher in 2010. The trial's punishment phase, which will include further testimony, was scheduled to begin Thursday.

SYG makes people trigger-happy. People see it as a license to kill with impunity, but it's not turning out that way in court.

there is another thread on this.

but this case is not a reason to get rid of a good SYG law. the guy was found guilty he was not protected by this law.

you cannot be the agressor and be protected by SYG.

No look at this the other way around. You have a trigger-happy guy looking for an excuse to kill off his neighbor.

The jury saw right through it though and convicted him.
