seems to me that there is a hell of a lot of aid money paid out to corrupt 3rd World govts, which does nothing for the people it is supposed to help.

why should these crooked parasites be allowed to drive top of the range cars, jewellery, mistresses and the like, off money from the working man back in the West?

80% of this supposed 'aid' money is siphoned off by theses crooks, whilst the poor masses of those nations continue to starve.

time to pull the plug on this sham and let these dysfunctional societies sort their own mess out.

agree?

"Aid" is just a term we use on the paperwork; that kind of money is mainly used to smooth things out for our business interests operating in or around those countries.

I guess that is true.

but why prop up obviously crooked regimes, why not try and just get rid of them?

Why do either?
Do you think our regime is somehow above reproach to judge the legitimacy of other governments?

if we give them millions of dollars a year though, they should abide by our standards.

otherwise, they should just be left to sort their own societies out.

what have they ever done for us anyway?

The us government should give no taxpayer money to any other government, nor should it dictate the government of another country.
Governments are nothing more than gangs and that includes ours.

ok, looks like we are in some sort of agreement then.

but how is it to be stopped?

where I am from, the govt. is now cutting large numbers of police officers, and stopping housing subsidies to various groups, yet the foreign aid budget continues to rise (paid for by the taxpayer) - why should we put up with this?

especially when you consider that most of this aid money is skimmed off by graft and foreign cronies?

this is a very poor situation IMO.

I'm not sure it can be. The US isn't the only one playing this game so unless everyone else stopped too...

"Foreign aid" is not a very large budget item, though. Especially once we remove nations with whom we have ties that are more complicated than merely aid, such as Israel, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
