So exactly what would that consist of then? It's funny how these blanket statements are never really defined. I'd be OK with it as long as it doesn't impede the ability of any law abiding citizen to purchase firearms but of course with government involved we know it will be a giant FUBAR that will inconvenience law abiding citizens while doing nothing to stand in the way of criminals who ignore all gun laws anyway.

He said criminals and mentally unstable, and that's tough to disagree with. We don't need more Loughners and "Jokers" running around with guns.

A background check would have done nothing to stop the guy. He had no record. Obother is also blathering about banning "assault weapons."

When Napolitano labels returning veterans "potential terrorists", what will constitute "unstable"? Believing in God?

Criminals and mentally unstable. I am not interested in Glenn Beck's fabrications of other people's speeches.

A criminal is a person with a criminal record, and a mentally unstable person is someone who has been diagnosed with mental illness.

I don't wish to belabor the point, but you may remember that the common way to deal with a political dissident in the Soviet Union was to declare them mentally unbalanced. Who's Glenn Beck?

Well, I suppose that was too bad for political dissents back in Soviet Union. What that has to do with allowing the criminals and the mentally ill carry guns in US is beyond me. You think US will label everyone mentally ill because they might buy a gun?

One never knows what Obama's words actually add up to as his intent is always covert.

Many of his suggestions are already law, and in effect in NJ.

Those laws have done nothing to stop the string of murders in Newark which excedes more than one a month since the 70s. To be fair, there was a single month where it was claimed no murders took place, but that may have been a technicality.
Supporters of Corey Booker tried to tell us it was his leadership that was turning newark's murder rate around based on one month out of 40 years. No reflection on Booker but reveals the fantasy world the libs reference to pass legislation.

Obama forgot to mention making firearm safety courses mandatory in grade and high schools.

Thank goodness we have Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and FOX "news" to explain the 'real meaning' of Obama's words.
