Yes, in the 'irrational exuberant days' when banks were giving money away to everyone, UE was around 5%. Those days weren't normal times.

As Krugman mocked back then, 'the nation is getting rich selling houses to each other.'

When you look at the birth/death ratio used in the survey you will see where the government said 52,000 people died in July , now if you compare that to July of 2011 only 5,000 people died. So by raising and lowering the birth/death rate you can make the unemployment numbers anything you want, and they did...........

Seasonal And Birth Death Adjustments Add 429,000 Statistical "Jobs" | ZeroHedge

How does this compare to July 2011? It is about 1000% higher: the last B/D adjustment was a tiny +5K! In other words, of the 163,000 jobs "added", 429,000 was based on purely statistical fudging. Doesn't matter - the flashing red headline is good enough for the algos.

Actualy 5% UE is considered full employment.

One of the worst things I can think of especially when one thinks of how socialist Soros is in thinking.

No, the OP's assertion that...

"No president since the FDR has ever been re elected with a unemployment rate above 7%." ...

... is meaningless.

The UE rate is, of course, a meaningful stat. But it's only one of hundreds of factors that move voters.

And anyone who wants to go back to the Bush years is insane. The economy was falling off a cliff then, shedding a half a million jobs a month!

I agree that the recovery is slow, and that hurts everyone. But let's have at least a hint of intellectual honesty about the timeline and the progress we've made.
