It's kinda like the ICBM silos. Yeah, you can hop some fences or cut them and get over to the top of the silo....where you will eventually be arrested....but you aren't getting in without a couple days and heavy machinery.

Ever consider that the facility itself is basically a heavily fortified bunker and the fences etc. are just a less expensive early warning option? You don't have some mall cop sitting around in a single wide surrounded by some fences with a bunch of plutonium in a rubbermaid storage bin.

I mean, look at our SSBN's. We've had protestors get near them before by jumping some fences or whatnot....but it's not like they almost got thier hands on the subs nuclear warheads.

Outsourcing government functions to their corporate buddies is what the GOP means when they talk about a smaller government. The government still has the same responsibilities, but they hire someone else to do the work and then claim they made the government smaller.

It's really nothing other than a transfer scheme, moving your dollars to friendly corporations. In exchange, we get crappy service, security guards that don't speak English, foreigners feeding our troops, decisions being made by corporate bureaucrats and a whole host of other problems like the one this thread is about.

Ever heard of the human genome project?

US government started working on it around 1990 and spent $3billion on it.
A private US company started working on it around 1998.

They finished at about the same time, the private company spent about $300million.

So let's see, it took them 1/4 the time and 1/10 the money.

Also, you never met a problem you couldn't somehow solely pin on the GOP. Really, pork is bi-partisan and is just a fact of life.

Simple, democrats keep demanding the we reduce the size of the military. Problem is that there is still X amount of jobs to do and Y amount of soldiers to do them. Keep reducing Y enough and eventually you get what we have today, a bunch of civilian contractors doing the jobs that the military use to do before their numbers were so badly reduced. Hell back in the early 90's when I was still active duty I wore several different 'hats' because our shop which was suppose to have 40+ people in it was only staffed at 30.
