If you feel you and others of higher income can afford to pay higher taxes, then have you ever considered investing how much you can afford into US Savings Bonds? This doesn't include whatever your investment portfolio already has in bonds.

Most of the arguments for increasing taxes on here come from people who feel the middle class and poor don't pay enough in taxes.

Why would I want the government to get itself into even more debt?

Considering the time it takes bonds to mature and the current rate of interest, I doubt that's the reason the country would get into more debt. Be interesting to see how Congress would react if every adult citizen suddenly purchased US Savings Bonds at $50 or more per person every year.

I think we should have a tax of 0% on the poor, 75% on the middle class, and 99% on the upper class. We'll be Heaven on Earth. At least that's what the liberals tell me anyway

conservatives say that the middle class and poor don't pay enough in taxes. (see: Payroll tax )

libs say that the "rich" don't pay enough in taxes. (but unwittingly target the upper middle class instead of the 'rich')

The AMT tax hits those making $33K/year (single) next year. I think we've lowered the bar from upper middle to blue collar working class now.

I say we eliminate the income tax and shrink government accordingly.
