Should Kallingrad become independent from Russia? Before Kallingrad Oblast it was called East Prussia and it has belong to Germans about 1000years but when Germans lost WWII and russians occupieded. What do u think should Kallingrad Oblast would returned to germans or became free country. P.S I found some guy made a petition for that.

It was also populated by the Old Prussians before "Germans" came with the Teutonic Order. I wouldn't have a problem with independence since Konigsberg was the birthplace of Prussia which was the predecessor state to modern Germany, but today the population is almost entirely Russian, Ukranian and Belorussian if I recall correctly.

The Germans lost WWII so I don't think the Russians need to return anything. There aren't any Germans living there anymore as the area was ethnically cleansed by the Soviets.

It depends on what they want I guess. As it's surrounded by Lithuania and Poland it is in an odd situation, but the population is indeed mostly Russian.

Still there may be a few Germans in the oblast, but if so they represents less than 1%. (I can't seem to link to the source on that though)

Well most peole that live there are ethnic Russians. Anyway even if there were moves towards independnace the ultimate factor of deciding if it is going to be independant wont be just by the government in Moscow but the ethnic Russian population there.

This area was stolen from Lithuania because the Soviets needed a port that's open to the sea and doesn't freeze up. It was part of greater "Klaipeda" or as the Germans refer to as "Memel"!

Lithuanians were mostly purged from this area but still remain the second most dominant ethnic group there. All commodity port transit from there to Russia is thru Lithuania.

It should be returned to Lithuania but considering the size of Lithuania vis-a-vis Russia, that for the immediate future is impossible considering Russia's belligerant attitude towards all former Soviet colonies like Lithuania.

In the future...maybe!

Königsberg ("King's Mountain") was founded in 1255 by the Bohemian King Ottokar II, who came to help Teutonic Knights during their conquest of Prussia disguised as the ChristianizationThe historical phenomenon of Christianization a term for the conversion of individuals to Christianity and for the conversion of entire peoples at once (a political shift as much as a spontaneous mass shift in individual consciences), also covers the prac effort called the Northern Crusades.TThis event started the genocideGenocide has been defined as the deliberate killing of people based on their ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, or (sometimes) politics, as well as other deliberate actions leading to the physical elimination of any of the above categories. There is of local Baltic Prussians and German colonisation of the area. The small remaining population of local Baltic Prussians eventually became germanized. However, the Baltic-Prussian languageOld Prussian is an extinct Baltic language spoken by the inhabitants of the area that later became East Prussia (now in north-eastern Poland, Lithuania and theKaliningrad oblast of Russia) prior to Polish and German colonization of the area beginning in did not become extinct until 18th century.

Kaliningrad Prussia Konigsberg German Russian City Capital East
So the city was originally Prussian but then became German until 1945 where the Germans were expelled.

Like I said it belongs to Lithuania.

Lithuanians speak this Baltic language that you refer to more correctly known as Indo-European.

I wonder what the Russian majority population that lives there would feel on if there was a movement to so called reunite with Lithuania by Lithuanians living there? Anyway here is the comparision of Russians and Lithuanians living there.

The Russians bled to death in WWII, Kaliningrad is thez symbol of their victory (and ours!) upon the Nazis.
They will never surrender that region to anybody, and to suggest taht they could do so is outrageous.
On the other hand, the Cold War is finished and there are still deep sentimental relationships between East Prussia and many Germans who originate from that region, so I think the links between Kaliningrad/Königsberg should be increased and the Oblast have a special status within the Russian Federation, with German as second language.
We should never forget that the first victims of the Nazis were the Germans themselves!

If we could eliminate war as a political/religious/commercial tool, it would be interesting to see the major nations dissolve into individual states. North America might become 10 regional associations of 100 states, cities and regions. Eurasia could become a hundred or so ethnic regions, cities and states. Similar situations would arise in the rest of the world.

These polities could use their own currency or a World Note possibly based on some group of commodities or other system. Trade would be controlled by each "state" depending self interest. All would pay a "defense and police" tax to fund an international army, civilian and economic police force to prevent war, prosecute civil crimes committed outside each state and control the interstate business community to prevent monopoly, fraud and thievery.

Konigsberg could become its own state independent of Lithuania, Poland, Russia or Germany.
