We do NORAD and NATO Missions we already have a again fleet of Legacy CF-18's or in US military terms we have F-18 A/B upgraded to about the exacty same level as the last of the Operational USN F-18 C/D Models that are being swapped out. the Also the Tornado is so old that ihas been Replaced many years ago by the Eurofighter Typhoon we would be Downgrading since the last tornado to ever be built on production was 1998 so we would have to spend millions to make it NORAD compatible to upgraded a 14 old plane and not sure what a Super Copters is but CH-47 Chinook and an AH-64 Apache are two diffrent "Super Copters" and have way Diffrent Roles and we just bought a bunch of CH-47F and still have the CH-47D we used in Afghanistan.

also the Harrier and Tornado are out of production and are as old as our planes in Fact the US marines have all the Harrier II from the British Royal Navy and they are sub sonic and add in we do not need a jump jet but we need a Fast Gen 4.5 for a primary air-to-air combat role a secondary role like air-to-surface attack and have the capability for roles can be added, such as air reconnaissance, forward air control, electronic warfare, Air interdiction, suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD), and close air support (CAS).

That is waht we need and need to order them to start being built ASAP since a F-15Se order will takes years to fill if we bought say just 50-55 and use up the little life span left on the CF-18 which are suppposed to be rotated out of the Airforce and be fully Replaced by 2018 or the latest 2020 which is pushing the plane past it's lifespan and running Risks of crashes goes way up and the airframe would not weak due to all the stress from the years put on since the last major $11 billion Refit and upgrades which was from 2001-2005 with minimal upgrades since.

F-15 Silent Eagle for South Korea - YouTube
See we would be buying the plane that South Korea decided not to go with but order more less expensive in full production F-15K imnstead..We should just order 140 now and be done with it till the F-35 is proven and in full production or even wait for the next block of F-35A's to be built and get them then.

Being an AF brat, we always got to see the Thunderbirds.
Living on base, the planes were not noticed, as we were very use to it.

Love air shows, and so do my kids, it instills in them fascination, curiosity and most importantly, Patriotism.

No, they're a lot of fun. Really enjoyed the Blue angels, f 114 Nighthawks, and they took a F15 and he went on his side, cockpit to the crowd and he paralleled the taped off crowd a half a dozen times, he was close and low, the sound was deafening.

Air shows are cool in that they give people a glimpse of the technology and skills that only a few people ever witness. For me it has nothing to do with war or patriotism, it's just a facination with what humans can do.

Do airshows promote war?

No, they don't.

Whether they do or not doesn't matter to me. I don't think too hard about it. I simply go to airshows to watch and photograph machines in flight.

[and that's it]

All photos by me:

GTOlover you seem to be our resident expert on the subject thanks for sharing your knowledge..
Heres a great video of the Blue Angels doing there thing , unfortunately the guy taking the video screwed up most of the audio to the point where its almost better to watch the vidoe without sound as it seems the guy is trying to include scanner communication,it just ruins a great video..

Bah just with the F-35 fiasco the F-15 Silent Eagle is almost a “no brainer” as Harper likes to say when things do not work out and we need to make a huge change in plans since we wasted tons of money on something that is not working out and becoming a problem Rather then a solution to be the problem..

Add in there is an opening in the production line. It is a relatively low cost option which can replace some of the rapidly aging USAF F-15 fleet also, on a cost effective basis (life cycle cost/total cost of ownership analysis) when compared to the expected cost of some of the older birds to be run through the SLEP programs and the likelihood that they won’t last a great deal longer anyway for both our Countries if the F-35 is hit with more set backs since the most expensive fighter plane in history where for $1.5 Trillion so far invested Lockheed Martin has sure not come through and when you get burned by one comapny you go to another which is Boeing and see if they can come through.

Now what would be even more interesting as a follow on to the F-15 Silent Eagle would be a revised Eagle. One with a greater numbner of aero mods to further reduce its observability, but without the use of the exotic RAM & etc which is both expensive to maintain and reduces the mission generation capability of the platform.

The F-35 program keeps showing images of it carrying external ordnance (though there is doubt it could actually carry the quantities depicted over any useful range). It simply is an oxymoron to have a stealth aircraft carrying external stores which defeat its stealth capability esp when up here in Canada we have too use extenal drop tanks so we already have is Degraded Stealth for any NORAD intercept Missions.

So upgraded F-15s could fulfill that role as well, and probably better at a lower acquisition cost and with lower maintenance costs. (Actually, this is somewhat funny. “Once upon a time”, the F-15 was the high end of the high-low mix with the F-16. Now a revised version of it is, perhaps, the low end of the high-low mix.)
Perhaps even a re-engining with thrust vectoring would provide the new Eagle with the capability to go toe-to-toe with 5th Gen aircraft when it actually comes time to maneuver rather than a 1st sight, 1st shot BVR engagement which is possible and the SU-35S is all about performance in toe-toe where the F-35 is to slow to Run and not able to out maneuver the newer thrust vectoring Flankers with upgrded engies that allow it too supercruise and it has a massive Range and Payload advantage.

With the the F-35 program in possible even more trouble than already know is certainly one which is difficult to avoid and the F-22A fleet might not without issues could be grounded so always have a back plan to ensure that something is in prodution for the Canadian Airforce and the USAF itself.

alos it will not be a cheap alternative either but be almost expensive as the F-35 is now but the f-15 has a proven track Record and that might be the safe bet for now for Canada.

And now you want air shows to go the way of trans fats, the big gulp, Happy Meals, military recruiting (SF), twinkies in your kid's lunchbox, speech, water for farmers, the ten commandments in the courthouse...am I missing anything that offends?
