Everyone pretty much agrees there are people that need help, financially in this country. But many are tired of the amount we keep increasing to them, and therefore the more we get taxed for these programs. More than 50% of the US doesnt pay taxes.
I propose for all you that truly want to help the poor, when you do your tax returns, reject your refunds..Therefore the Government will have more funds to distribute to the needy..

Smart people have their withholding set up so that they get no refund.
That's your money the government has for 365 days with no interest.

Me..I set mine up so that I pay a few hundred each year.

And why would anyone trust that the government would use the funds the way they want them used? Better to take the return and donate it to a charity that passes those funds on to people in need. And if you work for a company that matches charitable contributions, you'll be doing twice as much for others by taking the return.

As a Liberal myself you really aren't wealthy if you are getting a "tax" refund every year!

Really? And, who would be these people? How much should they be paying in taxes that they don't?

Why do you get refunds?

Much of the increase we are inevitably going to see in increase revenue enhancements are because of programs that were "safety net" programs for the rich. The bailouts, QE, etc.

If you supported these actions I hope you forgo your returns.

True. But you would be surprised how many working people think a refund is the way to go.
I always mention that the refund is their money to begin with that they did not have access to for at least one year. And they get it back with no interest.

For many though..it's forced savings although when they get it they tend to squander it on toys and gadgets.

Liberals are Hypocrites, a bunch of hypocrites. All you can do is Deflect.
My taxes are my taxes. I dont want to pay for all the countrys entitlement programs. If I get a return, well it is mine. If I set it up to not get a return, then that is how I set it up. That is my business.

99.5% of those who do not pay income taxes earn $30,000 or less per year, 76% earn $25,000 or less (JSUK - the poverty line for a family of four is $23,050)

Frankly, I would think that the more pressing concern is why so many working Americans have seen such a decline in their hourly wages in light in the steep rise in corporate profits.
