Ecuador debating WikiLeaks founder's asylum - World - Canoe.ca

Ecuador is likely to announce a decision on whether to grant political asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange before the end of the week in a case with diplomatic implications around the world, President Rafael Correa said on Monday.

Assange has been taking refuge in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since June 19 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning on sex crime allegations.

The Julian Assange fiasco proves that the "free nations" of the world still hold political prisoners.

I hope Ecuador does the right thing and grants him asylum. The U.S. will use various forms of soft torture on Assange.

On 15 August, Ecuadorian foreign minister Ricardo Patiño alleged that Britain threatened to storm his country's London embassy to arrest Assange.[256][257] At a press conference Patiño said, "Such actions would be a blatant disregard of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations and of the rules of international law of the past four centuries. It would be a dangerous precedent because it would open the door to the violation of embassies as a declared sovereign space. On 16 August, the Ecuadorian foreign minister Ricardo Patiño stated in a press conference that the Ecuadorian government was granting Assange political asylum.

If you read any of those leaks then you saw how our foreign policy was make to benefit corporate interests so they could waltz into a country and get lucrative contracts.

You also saw how the state dept used suitcases full of money to buy allegiance.

Our MSM could have had a field day on the corruption that the US brings all over the world and how our state dept is used by corporates to get a foothold in other countries.

If we had a real media then there would be no need and no market for a site like wikileaks.

I'm sure he has a lot of information on a lot of different things, which is why they want him for "questioning" for some bogus sex charge. Information is a dangerous thing.

exactly, as I mentioned before.... when ever has a government gone to these measures on rape allegations?

Journalists all over the world should worry. Apparently reporting the real news is a crime.
