If you are not pro-gay then you are right wing? Is this the base of how Americans perceive Christianity...Jesus Christ was about fair play and justice...and I hate to admit it here- Christianity in it's real form is as LEFT wing as the heart is on the left side of the chest.
You're correct that the bible and it's teaching are very left wing, however the evangelicals have hijacked the religion, cherry picked versus, and turned it into a radical right wing propaganda cell.

I don't dispute what you say about the real origins and concepts of Christianity. But to answer the first question of your post, fundamentalist Christians in this country have usurped Christianity and turned it away from a religion based on Christ's words--love thy neighbor; whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me--all of the true tenets found in the words of Christ. It's a shame, but as long as they are in control of one of our two major political parties we have to see them for what they are--the American Taliban.

that indeed they have.. I am an atheist, but I can certainly respect the teachings of jesus because they are very humanist. Minus all the god the father bull$hit. These Evangelical Christians are hardcore jesus warriors that have lost the plot on christianity altogether. they have adopted an "ends justify the means" mentality when it comes to addressing human problems, and justify themselves in their stances because they've told themselves god is on their side.

This is how spooky they are.. there is NO rationalizing with these people.. they know and believe themselves to be right...and refuse to analyze their positions because to do so would involve questioning their religion and most people that analyze their religion which just is not an option in their mind... from my own experience most people that analyze their own religion and really apply even handed critical thinking to it become atheists or agnostic at best...because there just is NO evidence to support god. ZERO.

What would happen to the TEA Party?

If the Evangelicals vanished, how much better off would we be?
I am not an Evangelical and they do tend to annoy me at times. But their overall impact on the USA has been positive. The overall impact of Christianity in America has been good.

The thing that makes the USA great is the simple fact that the American people are good. Honest, charitable, hard working, etc. Look at the Ten Commandments then go read the Sermon on the Mount sometime and tell me what this nation would look like if we got back to living those values? Turn the other cheek, don't be judgmental, do not steal or even think about it. Don't cheat on your spouse and don't even think about it. Be kind to those who are mean to you and others even when you have every reason to hate and despise them. Do not hate anyone. Don't pick fights with others nor give them any reason to attack you. Work hard and receive the blessings of that hard work.

Christians who actually try to live by the teachings of Jesus Christ are better people than they would have been otherwise and that's a very good thing.

You don't need religion to have such values but it certainly doesn't hurt. Human beings tend to devolve towards the path of least resistance naturally and being amoral tends to be easier. Religion serves to remind its adherents that they are obligated to be good moral people.

America will continue the trend towards being less great as the American people continue the trend towards becoming less good. How would erasing Christianity make America better?

It would look like a lot of people would have to find someone new to argue with on top of finding a new topic besides God. I bet it would be a much quieter earth overall.

You've got a point. A lot of us would have to find a new hobby.

Exactly, and just like the mainstream Republicans and moderates within the GOP these days, mainstream Christians have stood by and allowed them to do it! In fact the only reason "atheists" and "lib-ruls" get the rap for being "anti-christian" to begin with, is because the so-called "real christians" seem unwilling to stand up for their own religion and values! So instead their silence simply makes them "enablers" who collude in the "confusion".

[MOD CUT/off topic]

Well I guess that would vary greatly on why they all did move away? Because they were forced out by law? Wouldn't be my America. Forced out by radiation? Probably look like a post apocalypse movie.

Move out because they can't make a free government the religious state it'd like? About the same as it is today.
