A bunch of students got busted doing this.

Cellphones are not permitted in city schools, and when officials looked into the student’s phone, they found a trail of text messages, including photos of test pages, that suggested pupils had been sharing information about state Regents exams while they were taking them.

That reminds me: Cheaters are more likely to be Republicans and supporters of Romney/Ryan.

Upper class people more likely to cheat: study

They also use google docs--a shared medium.

On TV right now is a C-SPAN program about college cheating with Teresa Sullivan (UVA president) as one of the speakers.

As a college instructor myself, I've busted on average about 7 to 10 students per class of 40 (more in larger survey classes) and that's just the ones I can catch. I figure a few more get through the cracks. College cheating is rife.

I spent a few weeks hanging out in a library computer lab (because my computer died and it took a couple of weeks to get it back up again) and I found that many students using the lab were there to take on-line tests as a community or group effort. One student would take a test online on a university computer in the lab, while several other students used their laptops to look up answers. I pointed this out to the librarian managers who oversee the computer lab. She said, "yeah, it goes on every day. so what?"

Ah...state universities!

Of course they cheat, because the subject matter holds no interest or value for them.
But they'll learn how to use the features of a new phone or game pretty quick.

All right now. This article is about a New York school. Isn't New York a blue state?

Maybe these online courses aren't a good idea. One student using that google doc to cheat with some friends even wondered if these schools had seriously thought this stuff through when it came to designing these online courses.

For five or more years I know of. That is why in at least college they order all things off the desk and turned off.
If smart they reseat the students in non-predictible seating as to not let them sit next to someone who would help them cheat.
At one college I know of some people sent brainy students with their kids from other countries to help them pass the class by helping with the cheating during testing. They usually get caught.

If they are using cell phones to find the answers, they are learning to the test, right?

Tests have become the assignments. At least they had to look it up and write it down.
What they retain of that, is anyone's guess. I guess it would depend on the IQ level of the student.
