I'm in my 20's, and have only followed politics closely for the past few years. This really seems like a no-win situation no matter if you got Obama or Romney. I don't have the historical prospective of what the choices were like years ago or more even more recently with a race like Gore vs Bush, was that race as ridiculously stupid as this one? So, i'm just looking for some input, have all campaigns been this frustrating, or does this one go above and beyond?

Although I was not of voting age, the '76 campaign choices of Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford was the most God-awful that you could ever imagine. I hope that you never live long enough to see a worse one.

It has been pretty much all downhill since the voters rejection of Goldwater in '64.

I think Bush vs. Gore and then Bush vs. Kerry were both, as South Park would say, "douche vs. turd" elections.

After the last 2 Presidents I no longer look at Carter as being the worst President in my lifetime.

The direction we took after that would have been quite different.

A better "Barry".

Richard Nixon gets my vote starting from his picking a VP who ended up resigning because he was criminally charged with bribery and paid $270,000 in fines for that to Nixon's own resignation after the Watergate hearings. The only one in his whole administration who wasn't corrupt was Gerald Ford who Nixon inherited as VP due to Spiro Agnew's resignation.

Those calling Carter the worst president can say what they want but no other president in my life time was more honest, more moral or more committed to doing what was right for humankind. His biggest problem was he was a Washington outsider and didn't play the trading favors games other politicians do and they made him pay for that.

Character counts when I pick out a candidate to give my vote to and I think you can tell that if you follow their campaigns and back stories close enough.

ETA: I've been following politics since Eisenhower.

ETA again. LOL I completely misunderstood the OP question. It was the worst choices for president, not the worst president. Oops. For that answer, I'll say the 1968 elections between Nixon and Humphrey. That was the year of the violent protests at the Democratic convention and the nation was in an awful upheaval far worse than anything we're facing now.

My Grandfather was first generation Irish Catholic. Democrat, through and through. If he was still alive, with the choices of a Mormon and an African American for president, he would be absolutely crazed. Really, it almsot siunds like the beginning of a great bar joke..."There were these two guys running for President..."

Jokes on us. I thought the last election was bad, with Palin in the mix. Forget about Gore and Bush...

You beat me to it. That episode pretty much summed up presidential politics in this country. I'd have to go with Obama/McCain as worst, but Ford/Carter was a close second.
