Three members of Russian female punk rock band P***y Riot were sentenced to two years in prison Friday after they were found guilty of hooliganism for performing a song critical of President Vladimir Putin in a church.

The five months they have spent in detention since their arrests in March count toward the sentence, Judge Marina Sirovaya said.
Well at least the 5 months they spent in detention counts

That's absurd but then again it's Russia, 2 years for protesting. Putin and his Russian mob are at it again, same with their murder of news reporters, going to take awhile to changethat country.

That's Russia. And Putin is O's buddy. No, reverse that. O is Putin's buddy, waiting to 'deal' with him when he has more flexibility after elections. He must admire Russia -- and Putin's cleverness in ensuring himself another term as president, after a brief hiatus.

If Obama gets elected for a second term, we'll look increasingly more like Russia but under the more genteel term of "socialist".

We often forgot that freedom of speech is an uncommon gift our nation bestows us.

Russia isn't even communist anymore.

They are largely a capitalist oligarchy\dictatorship.

Basically, you guys aren't making a whole lot of sense as you can have oppression of personal rights under any sort of economic system.

Want some examples from US history? We had this going on wayyyyy before FDR's new deal and the imposition of social programs that you are lamenting.

Protesters in this country have been jailed, beaten, and even killed as well. It's not just a Russian problem.
