Before Christie came into office NJ was part of lawsuit where bordering states were suing other states over pollution, in the case of NJ they were suing PA. I actually agreed with NJ's postion and my solution to the problem was quite simple. Close all the power plants generating excessive energy not needed in PA and pull the plug on power flowing into NJ. There is no reason the residents of PA should suffer the enviromental consequences of NJ's consumption.
Sounds like a fair an equitable solution?
Fair, but rather extreme, don't you think?
Would you advocate the same solution for acid rain in Canada caused by American coal burning? You know, that might require the closing of every power plant and no electricity for us.
Since when is expecting coal-fired plants to meet air standards an act of war?
The new mercury standards will reduce deposition rates in the US 1% to 10%. The issue with mercury is primarily neurological so that's a good gauge of the benefits of these regulations. EPA estimates suggest the average IQ will rise 2/1000 of one point.
Quote:
The EPA does not shut down plants that don't pollute.
The new CO2 caps being proposed will effectively prevent any new coal plant from being built, if they were applied retroactively some natural gas plants built the early part of the last decade could not meet them.
Of course I'm not being serious but you're missing my point, the residents of NJ might rethink their position when the lights in Atlantic City go out and electric rates go through the roof?
FYI the effects of acid rain on water quality are still debated, going back to the 80's there is competing theories. One that was widely accepted is it's man made but not what you're thinking. Many of these areas with lakes that had fish at the turn of the century were heavily logged allowing the water to become less acidic. The theory is since the logging has stopped they are now returning to their natural state. Do a search for Ed Krug and acid rain.

LOL , NJ has Nuclear , Wind and Solar and Tidal by the end of the decade we should be selling power to PA....2 Nuclear Plants are supposed to close by 2030 in the Northeast and 3 Coal....but will be replaced by 5 Natural Gas and 7 Wind Farms....

Are you going to bet your life on those wind farms?
PJM is shutdown @12,000 MW of generation you can't build fast enought o make that up....

Renewable will only drive up costs substantially.
You're not going to sell power to PA unless it's some kind of regional deal, PA is net exporter of electric and always will be.As matter fact there is brand new 500-kilovolt line from my area going to Roseland NJ to feed power from a new nuke plant.
Where is it you will be getting that natural gas? Perhaps a surcharge on any gas going to NJ so we can go on a spending spree?
Look I ain't got no problems with NJ, my original point was NJ suing the state of PA for basically what amounted to their consumption of electric.
The environmentalist fanatical whack jobs with the help of this administration are destroying this country's ability to become energy independent....The End of America!!!
You can bet on it- liberals will be the first to complain about higher electricity prices, yet they continue to support this clown. Keep in mind that higher electricity prices-
drive up costs for the consumer
allow prices to rise for "alternative" sources such as natural gas
drives business from the US due to higher energy costs
increase prices to consumers, as it is added cost of business
increase unemployment
If one could have designed a president to eviscerate the US economy, no one could have dreamed of a more perfect president than Obama. Every move he makes is designed to increase unemployment, drive down incomes, and increase the misery index.

Oh yeah, we wouldn't want to shut down this wonderful, life affirming industry would we. The coal industry is the poster child for the right wing, enviro-hating wackjobs.
"When mining companies level West Virginia mountains to get at the coal beneath, towns disappear.
When a Michigan power plant burns coal to make electricity, it triggers asthma in children nearby.
When coal ash blows onto a Paiute reservation in Nevada, elders die."
You can believe the nonsense spewed by the Sierra kooks. That doesn't make it true. Same with the EPA. They fire off their nonsense numbers based on studies that nobody knows where they came from but the numbers are there so they must be true. Go hold your breath and save yourself.
Coal-fired power plants produce more hazardous air emissions than any other industrial pollution sources---about 386,000 tons of 84 separate deadly air pollutants from over 400 plants in 46 states. Pollutants that cause cancer, birth defects and other illnesses.
So the question is would you rather pay a bit more for energy or have you or your children die of cancer from breathing these lethal pollutants?
