Let's fast forward; Obama wins 2012 and in 2016 we have a $20+ trillion dollar debt. We are still over 8% unemployment, or worse. Food stamp registration is heading toward 65M. The government is still in gridlock after 8 years; Reid is still the majority leader in the Senate; a budget wasn't passed until 2015 (just in time to salvage Hillary's run for Prez)

If this highly likely scenario plays out (or fairly close to it)... who's fault will it be?

It's a highly unlikely scenario. But the voters will decide in 2016, just as they do every four years.

If this was a likely scenario, I would hope the Republicans nominated someone worth a damn in 2012 to avoid this mess.

A lot also depends on the results of Congressional elections in 2012 and 2014.

President Obama will blame President Bush.

I would have thought, that by now, he would at least own up to the last two years. Does anyone really believe the Dems would still be blaming Republicans, for what is clearly their mess, after nearly 10 years? They've had control of Congress since 2006, after all.

If you had been told in 2008 that: food stamps would double; unemployment would still be above 8%; no budget would be passed in Obama's 4 years; the national debt would go to $16T; that we'd still be in the same two wars +Lybia... would you have believed it?

Yeah, and ask me if that would have still changed my vote?
