It is good to be King and Queen!

Quote:
Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.

In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.

Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.

The Daily Caller is a right wing rag, to begin with.

Ah yes, only since January 2009 has it cost anything for a president.
How much did you say it cost to take care of Bush for a year?
Oh yeah, he didn't cost taxpayers a cent.

Duh.

But here's one just as reliable:

The REAL PROBLEM is that all of America paid over 1$ billion for just ONE year of his campaign travel, when the fact is, he has kept the campaign trail active for FOUR YEARS, instead of focusing on the issues at hand. (Who else could promise every 6 months that his focus was going to become JOBS, JOBS, JOBS...... while the focus never happens?)

This man never became president. Just look at what his schedule was, and his petty rhetoric, for the last 4.

I give these articles zero credibility when they don't include an equal comparison to previous years and Presidents. It's easy to say that the 1.4 billion is high when not comparing to anything.

Total Cost of All White House Elements, for fiscal year 2008: $1,592,875,254
Looks like the costs are going down.

Instead of comparing it to the royal family, I would prefer they compare it to Bush's expenses. That would be more of an "apples to apples" comparison. Also, did Bush have the dog handler and projectionist?

This article kinda sux....

Looks like the costs are going down.

So in 2008 it cost almost $1.6 billion and last year it was $1.4 billion. So who was really King and Queen?

Good post tluv00.

Bush probably wasn't at the White House enough to need those, seeing as he holds the record for most Vacation days of any President in history. And he got so much criticism for flying back and forth to Texas on Air Force One (at $260,000 a flight), that he started flying randomly all over the country to make people think he was doing Presidential work instead of vacation.

Bush Spent 5 Times More On Flights To Texas Than Obama

In response to growing criticism that the president was on vacation too much, the Bush administration adopted the Rovian tactic of scheduling, “work events,” while the president was in Crawford so that they could claim that President Bush’s vacations were working vacations. During his infamous pre-9/11 August vacation, the AP reported that, “Using the ranch as a base, he will promote White House initiatives in Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver, Albuquerque, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and San Antonio.”

Bush’s “working vacations” cost taxpayers a small fortune in travel costs because President Bush and his staff would make day trips on Air Force One all across the country in order to counter the criticism that he was on vacation too often. For eight years, Bush essentially used Air Force One as his personal vacation taxi service.
