Well, we have built the greatest country in the history of the world. Your idea would end all that.

It is treason, and dumb to boot. In a Democracy, a diversity of ideas is healthy over the long term. I have a feeling that even if the partisans were to get countries where all apparently thought alike, they might find that diversity would spring up and tolerance would be necessary in the end anyway. A redneck dad would have a gay son. A vegan activist might raise an investment banker,an investment banker might have a "road to Damascus" moment and become an environmentalist. There are Texans in California and vice versa, and that won't change. There are even rednecks in Cascadia. A lot of them.

I find it funny that the conservative partisans love to wrap them in the flag at every occasion, yet these break up the USA thread seems to usually come from the right. Patriots, my arse. Oh, and then there are the "Ecotopians/Cascadians" who are a bunch of rich hippy kids who could not run a vegan hot dog stand. And guess what, most of us who have spent our lives in the Pacific Northwest don't talk about seceding. It is the hippies from Toledo who come here and start talking like that. We ignore them.

And quite often from Southerners who still haven't gotten over the fact that the North whupped their rebel a**es 150 years ago.

I do not want people in the South to possibly affect people in the Pacific Northwest in terms of politics and what effect on presidential election they have for the United States as a whole and vice versa. Those areas are so different. I want each of these "countries" to be represented by their own regional values and overall ideas.

Well, you'll have to suck it up. Breaking up the UNITED states is not a viable option. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Your intolerance is precisely the problem we have with the South. Intolerance is not an American value.

Seriously?

Those "Blue" states still make most of the revenue and those "red" states still suck the country dry. Even by GDP. . .and the list is even better by capita (i.e. CT is VERY rich but small so its not on this list)

Even if all the TossUps went Red, you wouldn't equal the Blue states.

RealClearPolitics - Today 2012 map
GDP Blue Red TossUp
1 *California 1,936,400 - BLUE
2 *Texas 1,207,432 - RED
3 *New York 1,156,500 - BLUE
4 *Florida 754,000 - TOSS UP
5 *Illinois 644,200 - BLUE
6 *Penn 575,600 -BLUE
7 *New Jersey 497,000 - BLUE
8 *Ohio 483,400 -BLUE
9 *Virginia 427,700 -TOSSUP
10 *North C 407,400 -TOSS UP
BLUE 5,293,100 RED 1,207,432

California, on its own, is 13% of GDP . . .

By selling food, oil and in some cases water, to the liberal states that could never grow enough to feed their masses.

We here in California produce 13% of the nation's agricultural output - think we'll do fine. We can get our oil from Canada.

Not sure where the inner mountain West and Southwest go.

Good or foolish and bad idea?

Damn ridiculous. Some of you people sound like a bunch of adolescents with this BS about certain areas of this country. Grow up. This is one great country and one state is no better or worse than another. All this BS about I am better than you is childish banter. Get a life. Maturity is an eye opener.
