For those churches who insist on telling their followers who to vote for and who collect money for certain politicians, yes, they should lose their tax exempt status because they are not keeping the separation of church and state. They are using their tax exempt property as a background to work against half of our government. Did we not learn anything from the early history of the Catholic Church?

Unions do what you describe all the time. And in some cases, if you don't vote the "Union Way", you'll get beat for it.

It's not 1930 anymore. Jeez! Unions also don't get to own tax exempt property either.

Are unions tax-exempt?

I heard one of these preachers on a show and he kept saying 'keep government out of religion'.

All I could think was, 'fine, keep religion out of government, then!'

They absolutely should not be telling people who they should vote for from the pulpit when claiming tax-empt status.

I'm not sure which group I would want to win here, I don't have much love for either. The IRS will do nothing though. It's ironic that churches often lead the charge in complaining about "special rights" given to certain groups, yet they want special rights as charitable organizations to become involved in politics, but not pay taxes.

They've actually been doing this for several years. And they've resolutely been ignored for those same several years.

The only difference this year is their stated intention to videotape the proceedings and mail the tapes to the IRS.
