A wireless company profiting from the so-called “Obama phone” giveaway program is run by a prominent Democratic donor whose wife has raised more than $1.5 million for the president since 2007.

Don't you mean "BushPhones" since he started the program of subsidizing mobile phones for the poor? Or maybe, "ReaganPhones," since his administration started the whole program for land lines? Just who do you want to give credit to for this?

If Romney is elected I hope there is only one kind of phone. A RomneyPhone, one that people work for and pay for.
My dream (which won't come true) is that not only would the ObamaPhone program be discontinued but that a government agent would come and personally collect ObamaPhones and smash them into pieces.

The program switched over to cell phones in 2009. Before that it was landline only.
The program has ballooned since with heavy advertising.
There's a bill being proposed to go back to the landline. It's intent was to provide service in order to be able to dial 911 from home.
The FCC is proposing giving them smart phones and broadband service..cost is about $4 billion.
They are doing a pilot now of that.
