Excuse me? How much money both aqt the federal and state level does this country spend each year on welfare? You have Medicaid, food stamps, section 8, LIHEAP, school meals, cash assistance etc.... the list is endless. To suggest these programs are not substantial is being naive.

If the U.S. got rid of welfare, what would happen?

1. The crime rates would soar

2. The birth rate would drop radically

3. Many cities would emulate Detroit
4. The death rate would climb because of drug wars

The majoiry of recpients of Section 8 are seniors and Snap beneficiaries are minors. These are insignificant in the big picture.

SS and Medicare are the big $. The majority of Medicare is spent on end of life care.

Anarchy would also ensue but it would all be for nothing and still only a drop in the bucket. You're going over the cliff whether you want to or not.

As what? Baristas? Because it's not gonna be manufacturing when people in China are willing to work for 1/4 the price Americans could afford to live on.

as soon as there is no money for the stay home and play Internet all day, the ones who spend all their time tweeting and playing games won't know how to get through the day....so they will be out in the streets and angry, just like Europe....cutting the ones off internet who are supposed to be ready and willing for work in order to get the hand out, should be put in motion right away. The internet in opinion interferes with progress because it is social, addictive and does not add to anything but potential loss of focus on getting things done and trying new creative idea's.

The politicians would move to their bunkers ... cops would ditch their uniforms, crime would become the national pass time, and then, the doo doo would really hit the fan.

I never like the argument that it's insignificant, my opinion is any expenditure is significant. How and what we are spending money on needs to be scrutinized whether it the 5 billion in heating assistance or 5 billion on a carrier.
