Why do we spend a good amount of time arguing about politics when none of us a professionally involved in it? We spend time arguing with people who have different opinions about the same things...why? Do we genuinely think we are going to change someone else's mind or does it just make us feel better to make our case? Are our lives so pathetic that we get jollys off "besting" some idiot in an argument about something we pretend to know tons about?
I'm a republican...it doesn't do me any good talking to a liberal about smaller government, lower marginal tax rates, and less government services. When I'm speaking to a liberal...it doesn't do them a lot of good talking to us about keynesianism, universal healthcare, and expanding entitlement spending. On top of our ideological differences, this type of setting breeds toxic dialogue because it essentially has no repercussions with exception to an innocuous sanction.
Ultimately aren't we all just wasting our time? Is it just fun? Are we collectively bored? What is the objective here?

I'm all but retired and politics interests me. Now that I have the time, I enjoy it.
A lot of us come here because of boredom, sometimes boredom at work - and then get hooked and come on a lot more often.
I share some of the same sentiment you expressed in your OP, but I have been posting here on and off for over 3 1/2 years now and something keeps me coming back. I don't know what it is, but it's a bit addictive. It's like watching a train wreck.
If I can bring just one lost soul out of the darkness of liberalism and into the light of conservatism - then the effort is worth it.
Lol...I agree but this isn't the format for it. People are just naturally aggressive on an impersonal forum because they have zero repercussions. I used to participate in debates for the college republicans at my university and even that format wasn't great. You need to be face to face with someone over a cup of good coffee.
This thread is obviously a ploy for the left to get the right to stop fighting for the truth.
