I will say this, McGovern and Goldwater are the only two major party nominees who did not compromise their principles in the general election. They both got beat in landslides.
In 1972 the American people did not vote for the better man but one who lied cheated and stole! George McGovern joins such Americans as Hubert Humphery, Bary Goldwater ,Adlai Stevenson, Tom Dewey , Wendle Wilkie, Al Landon, Al Smith , Willian Jennings Bryan and Samuel Tilden as Presidential Losers. But all good men none the less.
He wrote an interesting article about his experience as a small business owner after he left the political life. He opened a inn in Conn. and went bankrupt in two years. He blamed his failure on the lack of tort reform (he got sued twice) and too many government regulations. It was good to see him be on the receiving end of big government.
RIP, he was the voice of reason during a time of upheavel. He was a WWII hero, yet hated war. I wonder how our country would have been different had he been prez instead of tricky dicky.
I campaigned for him during his '72 run and got to meet him, he was a very caring genuine human being.

and in the case off McGovern, look what that got us.

Oh, c'mon! This is not the time or place!
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May he RIP.
