I have heard that this is a natural course of expanding government.

I don't like it either.

But I thought perhaps those who favored bigger government might prefer this type of system.

Of course they shouldn't, but they do. It's called a "printing press", and they can control the value of any investment, savings, or interest accruing account you own.
