Racial prejudice has increased slightly since 2008 whether those feelings were measured using questions that explicitly asked respondents about racist attitudes,
The way they measure this is flawed and basically even the story notes this.
People are naturally inclined to favor those that most closely resembles themselves. That doesn't mean you have a darn thing against someone who might not as closely resemble you.
They go for the headline grabbing 51% are racist (Yes, I boiled their argument down to what they want the article to state) and then argue that Obama might lose 2% because of this.
I really wish people, especially those with a pulpit like we have here would quit with the race baiting already.

Amen. I erased a rather long post about some recent experiences but, ( now second erase) I guess it is too sensitive a subject.....race. Also, that shuts down any discourse on trying to iron out problems.....
Interesting that the poll targets white racism growing. I would like to see a poll of black racism towards whites, I'm sure it would show an increase as well, or are whites only guilty of racism?

All polls are flawed. I get calls from pollsters all the time and hang up on them. Those people that are counted in polls are those that are willing to waste their time answering questions, and therefore are not accurately representing the real population. As for the conclusion in this case, I would suggest that many of those polled probably watch TV shows from Detroit and Philadelphia such as "Parking Wars" and "Hardcore Pawn". Those definitely are a negative influence.
