When xenophobes like Sheriff Joe see the writing on the wall, you know the tide is a changing.

Arpaio does his job. I don't know that he's bigoted or anti-Hispanic, but I do know he is anti-illegal.

In the beginning of the article you referenced is the AZ Republic's interpretation of what Arpaio said and the article is slanted very left, which isn't surprising if you are familiar with the source.

This is what Arpaio actually said:

"I would hope to get together with the Latino community, if I could ever have them talk to me without screaming and threatening me," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio told supporters as election results came in Tuesday night. "So I hope to get together with the community and try to explain what we do, so that's going to be one of my missions coming up."

Thanks for the reasoned clarification. The OP is still giddy from last week, and inclined to get hysterical.

No, not really.
After reading the article, good 'ol saint joe hasn't changed his mind or positions on anything.

It'll do no good trying to recall him either, it'll just end up costing taxpayer dollars, just as the recall effort did for the wisconsin guvna.

What latinos must do is organize and get a stronger base to defeat him in the next election, it's the only way to get him and his ways out of the county.

The so called "olive branch" is faux. And latinos recognize that, joe isn't fooling anyone.

No point trying to recall him - he was just re-elected last week.

Joe has never had a problem with Hispanics. He has issues with criminals.

Quite so. Sheriff Joe is not anti Hispanic, he is pro law. An often overlooked fact is that a large percentage of the officers under his supervision in the Maricopa County Sheriffs Dept. are Americans of Hispanic backgrounds with Latino names.

Neither are these ethnocentric Hispanics fooling anyone. The only way they would make peace with the Sheriff is for him to stop enforcing immigration laws. He has no reason to extend an olive branch to Hispanic "citizens". What has he done to them? Nothing!
