You could say Obama 'doubled it' or you can say Romney 'halved it'.
Glass half empty or half full??
No. The old Exiles who came over in the late 50s early 60s are dying, and their children and/or grandchildren who were born here in the U.S. don't have the same experiences as the Exiles. The younger generations are really "Americans" and more liberal.
Also, the old exiles HATED JFK enormously....no love for the Democrats.

When Castro exists so will the old generation. Hopefully they will end the embargo. Either way, this is not good news for the GOP. It's going to be hard to win Presidential elections without Florida.
This is good to hear, I love hearing the Democrat Party getting more and more diverse. I feel like I am apart of a party that is beginning to really represent every part of this country....well besides the old, angry white man.

The death of Jorge Mas Canosa and the break up of the Cuban American National Foundation was sort of the beginning of the end. Now age is catching up with many others.
Cubans aren't really any different than those in other hispanic nations. The hispanic culture leads to banana republics -- but we had that one generation that didn't like Castro but liked Bautista instead. No surprise at all that Cubans want huge taxes and don't care about employment rates.
Not one hispanic nation leads in the Western hemisphere as far as standard of living or literacy of their people -- in spite of hispanic nations outnumbering the others, the USA, Canada, and Barbados have always been the top three nations in the western hemisphere in standard of living and literacy rates.
There are some very big reasons for that. Even where hispanic nations have democracy like Mexico has, they create such a huge mess of a nation that they don't want to live in it.

OMG! lol
The Cuban American community in south florida is, certainly in their minds, "different." You do realize that the Cubans who came to the U.S. just prior to and just after the revolution were the cream of the crop in Cuba, don't you? They were the well educated, the wealthy, the business owners, the politicians, etc. And they re-created their livestyles in Miami; they are the judges, doctors, lawyers, big business owners, etc., etc. They are the upper class. You should read up a bit about the history of the Cuban revolution and how the exiles who came to U.S. became wealthy and powerful in this country as well. They understood how important it was to become deeply involved in politics in this country in order to be successful and have any power, and they immediately became involved in building a very strong and influential lobby. Several Presidents actually went to Miami to meet with Jorge Mas Canosa over the years. You really should learn a bit about the International City of Miami and the influence of the Cuban Americans in that city. It's very interesting history.
