One person who should definitely NOT have anything to do with Santa Monica is Roy. (Sorry, Roy, but I know you're up there in years and the shock of seeing all those lefties, leaners, old hippies, Obama stickers, and Hollywood liberals in the People's Republic of Santa Monica would probably do you in. A Kennedy was mayor for a while. )
Actually it's not atheists that have ruined Christmas it's big business and retail that have turned the holidays into a giant shopping extravaganza. You want to fight for your religious holiday to regain what it once was then have at it with companies like Wal-mart, Barnes & Nobles and others.
I don't really think I have seen anything about businesses in any of the Christian displays out of Santa Monica so maybe you are trying a bit too hard. No, those horrible scenes were of the birth of Christ and other normal displays like that. Maybe you don't get the point.
I don't understand why all of a sudden people have a problem with Christmas decorations. It's been a tradition in this country forever and now people have a problem with it?
Get over it and move on to important things.
In the meantime, enjoy the beauty of the lights and decorations.
I can't stand this time of year; it's so awful. Wall-to-wall Christmas everywhere. It's an assault on the senses. You can't escape it unless you turn off the TV/radio and never leave the house. Even at work they decorate the place for xmas and have xmas lunches. There's nothing really WRONG with any of this...it's not my holiday and I think it's actually a stupidly expensive one that has been ruined by crass commercialism, but whatever...but it's just so intensely saturated over a period of a couple of months that it really does wear you down. It becomes annoying when you've heard these songs for the 100th time in a row as you walk through a store festooned with Christmas crap when all you're trying to do is get a damn pair of socks or some deodorant and the place is just jam-packed with people buying a whole bunch of crap they don't need...and it drags on for week after insufferable week.
I will say this though...the coupons get awesome this time of year. That's about the only positive thing.
When I lived in the States, a Jewish friend and I would slowly walk around on christmas eve, just sauntering, and drive people crazy.
I always wanted to say: I'm not in your hurry.
Side note, I finished sending all of my holiday boxes Stateside today.

Religious decor in public spaces is a no-no.
If you're over 10 you should understand that by now.
Per the OP's linked article, there are two parties to the lawsuit. The nativity scene supporters, and the city. So, logic demands that the city, in choosing not to use taxpayer monies for any displays, is therefore the party waging "war" on Christmas.
Even though:
"The city doesn't prohibit churches from caroling in the park, handing out literature or even staging a play about the birth of Jesus and churches can always set up a nativity on private land, Deputy City Attorney Jeanette Schachtner said in an email."
Directly from the OP's link.
It actually reads like the nativity supporters are waging war on the city, suing them to force the city to expend taxpayer funds to allow the nativity supporters to erect a Christian display on city property.
I guess you failed to see that the atheists in the city managed to get most of the spots on the beach for their displays. Did you see any of the displays they put up? Of course, as Vix said if you can't whip them join them so the atheists joined together to overcome the city with their requests to put up their displays.
Of course, there may not be a War on Christmas but in Santa Monica, the internationally know city about their displays on the beach, public property, the atheists have driven things a bit far, I think. I wonder why all those who day they read the link don't mention Mr. Vix and his group at all. He has said that he wants to do away with the 59 year old practice of the city and it seems he made it.
The city has been doing this since 1953 but organized atheism hasn't been around that long, has it?
This statement implies that you think leaners can't also be Christians who want to see the tradition continue. There are a lot of lefty Christians in Santa Monica, lol.
I think it should be allowed to continue as a Christmas display. It's very home-townish and people of all faiths (and none) are known to enjoy strolling along the walk looking at what various churches have put together. It's a wonderful park.
Yes, Roy. It's true. Those horrible leaners are going to church in Santa Monica.
Not all left leaning people are what I consider leaners. You understand why I use that term for the leaners who post here and I don't care at all what they think about Christianity since most of those here on CD who are against these displays are leaners.
