By the way, fire fighters are ranked 2nd. How do you explain that?
The culture of cooking lots of food while sitting around "waiting" for fires to happen. Then driving to said fire, only to watch it "burn itself out" is not conducive to being in "good shape".
I'll take fat all day if I could get their salaries and pensions. Jesus.

Haha-they have important jobs and I respect them and all, but man they sure do have their down time.
Across the street from my office is a firestation and they are usually just hanging out grilling food outside all day. Inside are TVs, pool table, dart board, etc. Must be nice haha...

My best friend is a Fireman, I have all the respect in the world for them and what they do. Their pay and pensions are absolutely the best I've ever seen. Better than Police, Military, Federal and State Civil Servants. Heads and shoulders above them all.
Yeah, the downtime is...interesting. With all the time off, he has started and sold numerous businesses. Always a busy dude with something going on.
I'm trying like hell to get my kids to go that route. There is no better career opportunity out there for middle class kids. None.
In my city, with a fairly low cost of living, they average $79,085 per year (that's salary only other benefits like healthcare and such send the average to over $112K per year per fireman).
The city pays all of their healthcare premiums. So they get free healthcare and dental insurance for them and their families.
For retirement they get 2% per year of service. Multiple the 2% by the number of years and apply that to final year salary and you have retirement.
Typical firefighter retires after 25 years with a salary average of $92,000 per year. So their retirement amount would be $46,000 per year.
Not bad at all. It's why I'm pushing my kids that direction. Our fire department has been around since 1894. There have been 16 deaths of firemen in the line of duty over that 120 years.
