It is amazing how conservatives come up with these angry posts about how unfair it is that the top 5% pays x% of the income taxes.
This is actually an indication of the huge income gains the top 5% have made relative to everyone else.
So this is why they pay so much because they make so much of the income.
Glad to hear you support a flat tax. Pay in exact proportion to what you earn.
The top 1% earns less than 17% of the income but pays more than 36% of the federal income tax. The share of the federal income tax they pay should be reduced to less than 17% to match their income.
The top 5% earns just about 32% of the income but pays almost 59% of the federal income tax. The share of the federal income tax they pay should be reduced to 32% to match their income.

Meaningless numbers without knowing what the top 5% made. i.e. If they made 90% of the $$$ and paid 40% of taxes it's ajust a bit different than if they made 30% of the $$$ and paid 40% of the taxes.

So, if you reduce taxes on the top 1% from 36% to 17%, that means that taxes on the bottom earners would have to be raised astronomically to a point where they are paying more than their p% of income. Remember, 1% to someone earning $1 million per year is 20% to someone earning $50,000 per year.
