Bill Clinton's Sister Soulah moment was done IMO solely and smartly to pivot to Nov, 1992 early. He had to risk his base to win independents. For those like I who do not like Obamacare, I blame largely JM for picking Palin and trying to woo his base instead of pivoting center, and vocally detailing 43's failings. By pandering to base, Minnesota elected Franken (razor thin margin would be less than indys lost due JM/SP rightward tilt). Franken was #60!!!

JM would NOT have won the WH with a crashed economy worst in 60 years, but he lost states that widened the gap and cost add'l Senate seats.

GOP candidates need to PIVOT NOW with their eye on Nov, 2012 instead of being content to be the World Series runner-up. It means standing up to the hateful bully aka the Tea Party. BC would have had the guts with a TP like equivalent, as would RR.

Bob, what's going on in the GOP right now is bigger than this election. The Tea Party has been percolating for decades. In order to win elections, the GOP has had to make a deal with the devil -- the bigots, the Christain fascists, and the straight up stupid. Up until now, the establishment GOP types have been able to use the lunatics to win elections, while still steering policy. However, the chickens are finally coming home to roost. The tipping point has come, and the lunatics are on the verge of overrunning the asylum.

That's what I don't really get. The independents are the kingmakers in every election, yet both parties shamelessly pander to the base. I know about the nixon strategy about being right wing in the primaries then centrist in the election, but still, this catering to the tea party is rediculous. I'm glad Romney basically claimed he wasn't part of that crowd.

MR was doing well until today, but his jump the shark started piling on the RP being booed moment over the Dream Act = pandering to TP = Lost Independents 2012 votes.

Truthfully, if GOP candidates were smart, they would make a back room deal. The next one cheered/booed over "Let them Die", "234 executions", "DADT soldier booed", or "Dream Act" would ask security to REMOVE the person in crowd acting out, and ALL other candidates agree to stand up for that action, that night and in days to come. TP has done enough to lose WH 2012, but not stopped, they could well lose the House, too. GOP will win Senate simply due to 21 Dems up for re-election, many in natural red regions.

PS, Nixon was brilliant. Talked the right wing primary game, and it was all talk. BC also talked the talk with his base, w/o giving them anything. Only idiots walk the walk.

So, you would incite mob rule and restricting, or eliminate the 1st amendment?

I'm glad the Constitution, keeps people like you in check!

BentBow, Mob riots-LOL! Constitution does not protect ANARCHY, although the Toilet Paper Party is simply too ignornant to understand the difference. If they want to act up, no problem, jail cells are available.

If they want to come to debates to LISTEN except when one is at the sole microphone intended for questions, they are within their rights. But speaking out of turn is not a Constitutional Right. 7 year olds know what timeout steps are for; they are reserved for future TP members.

TP crowd is just like the steaker at a MLB game, looking for attention. Childish, immature, deserves NO respect.

14 months later, this threads' premise was proven correct.

And Latinos made the difference, 5 million Obama edge, while all other groups went Romney by 1 million.

A big part was that hideous response from Romney when RP was inapprpriately jeered.
