But why do so many also oppose policies designed to assist the working poor, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit?

Why do so many support policies which effectively impose high marginal tax rates on the working poor?

Well EITC isn't their money, they didn't work for it, it's a kind of welfare handout. Taxes should be lowered for everyone.

The working poor is an essential part of a thriving manufacturing/service base. The few wealthy depend on volume consumerism from the middle class, and the only way to achieve high-volume consumerism from the middle-class is to produce or offer products and services at a cheap price, brought to you by the "poor working class".

You see, Aladdin should have been picking apples, not bangin' the princess. But it was Disney, after all.

Because everyone in America is a billionaire experiencing a temporary setback. Why vote against the interests of yourselves and your fellow billionaires? When you wish upon a star....

Because $15 TRILLION DOLLARS after the "war on poverty", we have more poverty than ever before and $16 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt.

Look, how much do you want? I'll PM you my contact information and you can ask me personally for whatever it is you feel that I, as a taxpayer, owe you.

If they are not related to me they are not my problem. If they can't afford to live in an expensive state they should move to a cheaper one.

Housing regulations should be lowered for everyone, then the working poor wouldn't need EITC.

Why not let the free market bring down the cost of living for everyone?

Dependent credits and the mortgage interest deductions are also hand-outs.

Everyone who can vote should pay taxes. There are many ways you can assist the working poor without making it so that they can vote to force other people to pay for benefits they themselves collect. That is legalized theft. I am not against programs to assist the needy but I am against programs that absolve any voter from having to pay taxes, such as the EIC.

The rule should be if you don't pay taxes, then you don't get to decide how those taxes are spent.
