I started to turn on the live coverage, but I just don't think I can bear it.

So incredibly sad. My heart breaks for the families of those who have died and been injured, as well as for the survivors (those children and teachers will probably carry emotional scars with them for the rest of their lives), the first responders, and for the entire community.

This is a horrible story. Senseless! I have a 9 year old, and I couldn't imagine how I would feel if it happened in his school. Having said that, keep this in mind. Guns don't kill people! People kill people! Those of you who are against people owning guns and allowing people to protect themselves, remember this... Criminals don't give a crap, and will still continue to get the guns. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!!!

Just because some nut job goes bat s*** crazy doesn't mean it should ruin it for normal folks.

I don't think the NRA ever stated every man woman and 5 yr old should be able to buy a weapon. Everyone who purchases a firearm should be mentally checked and licensed. But this view of the NRA arming the psycho's of the world is BS that's been made up to push the gun control advocates agenda.

Oh my god. I'm just left the office for lunch and am just now hearing about this. So, so sad.

I agree with less media attention and a ban on assault weapons.

What is common sense legislation to you?

I just do not understand the Liberal logic: God forbid we ask people to show an ID before voting. We are discriminating against minorities because it is their RIGHT to vote right? But then you all turn around and want to infringe on my RIGHT to keep and bear arms?

At least try to pretend you are consistent.

I'm as anti-gun as they get but nutjobs who would kill children are going to get their guns from someone or somewhere. If they couldn't get guns they would roll a barrel of ammonia nitrate in there and blow the place up. You can't legislate insane.

As long as we tolerate unregulated gun ownership by citizens, we will have to accept these sorts of things. Banning assault rifles, large magazines etc will not stop or reduce it appreciably. There are just too many guns out there on the streets and in homes. Only a total and absolute ban on possession will do. More people died in this shooting today than in the UK, which severely restricts firearms, from shootings in an entire year. Repeal the applicable provisions of the 2nd Amendment, confiscate guns and put them in armories allowing them only to be checked out by unquestionably responsible people for hunting and shooting sports.

BTW, I say this as an owner of several guns and one who carries concealed and enjoys shooting recreation.
